In his homecoming ceramah at the Permatang Pauh parliamentary constituency, the Parti Keadilan Rakyat de facto leader told his supporters that the price could be lowered due to the drop in global oil prices.
“Three weeks ago (I promised to bring it down to) 50 sen but now (because of the drop in oil prices) we can reduce it by 70 sen,” he said.
Anwar is also kicking off his by-election campaign in the constituency vacated by his wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Ismail, also PKR president. The Election Commission will decide on the date this Wednesday.
On July 15 during the televised debate between him and Information Minister Datuk Shabery Cheek, Anwar promised to reduce petrol price by 50 sen by financing it with a fund of RM5 billion, generated from the independent power producers’ extra capacity as well as stopping leakages from corruption.
